Search Type Example Hint
rowspan=5>Author's Name Twain Mark Enter Last name first, with or without a comma
hemingway Enter the entire last name, or a portion of the last name (e.g. hemingw)
james hen When last name is common, include all of last name and part of first name
Wild, P In journal indexes try the author's last name and first initial
ibm Author may be an organization's name

Other Hints for Author Searching
  1. Omit accent marks and all other punctuation in the author's name.
  2. Truncation on the right is assumed in an author search.
  3. If you aren't sure of spelling and a search results in no matches:
    • Try shortening the name
    • Try searching by title, subject, or keyword
  4. Because of pseudonyms and other variations in names, you may be presented with a *Search Under... or *Search Also Under... cross-reference. You may redirect your search to these alternative forms by selecting the entry.
